Welcome to CISSP Zone- a place to help you pass the CISSP exam.
My name is Mitchell Rowton, I have 12 years of experience performing information security and I hold a number of certifications including the CISSP-ISSEP. I have a day job with the Defense Department and go to school full time in the evenings. You can read more about me on this page. I run this site in my free time.
What you can expect from this site
First, I publish articles describing important or confusing portions of the Common Body of Knowledge (CBK). For example, check out OSI model, and Bell-LaPadula.
Second, I write CISSP practice test questions. These questions are free and you don’t have to register in order to use them. Visit the links below to start a practice test on that domain.
- Access Control
- Application Development Security
- Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Planning
- Cryptography
- Information Security Governance and Risk Management
- Legal, Regulations, Investigations and Compliance
- Operations Security
- Physical (Environmental) Security
- Security Architecture and Design
- Telecommunications and Network Security
Third, I publish information to prepare and inspire you for the exam. For examples see things I’ve learned from taking 6 ISC2 exams and how I failed the CISSP.
What you SHOULD NOT expect from this site
The CISSP exam is hard. Anyone who says otherwise is trying to sound smart because they passed it, or are trying to sell you something. If you buy a study guide or go to training that offers money back if you don’t pass the exam, it doesn’t mean that their customers always pass. It means that they have built a percentage of refunds into their business model. This site is free and I still wouldn’t offer a money back guarantee.
This site is not in-depth enough to cover all of the topics needed to pass the CISSP. Maybe it will one day, but its not now. I do publish articles about important topics, but these are limited to topics that are either 1) important for the exam, 2) confusing and often misunderstood, or 3) something I feel like writing about.
The practice test questions are not from the CISSP exam. They are not of similar quality to the exam. They are usually easier than the questions you see on the exam. Use them to help you understand what areas you need to spend more time studying. Don’t use them to help gauge whether or not you will pass the exam.
Subscribe to CISSP Zone
There are a number of ways to keep track of new content on this site. First, you can subscribe to get new content e-mailed to you. We offer feeds that you can plug into your favorite feed reader service or software. You can also follow me on Twitter or Facebook, I update both when something new is published. Be warned, Twitter and Facebook doesn’t always stay focused on CISSP stuff. But they are both fun places to visit.
Already a CISSP?
Think back to when you were preparing for the exam. Remember all of the questions you had?
How hard will the exam be? Which domains should I concentrate on? What book should I use to study? Should I go to training? How long should I study? Can I get a new job after getting the CISSP?
Well right now there are a lot of people preparing for the exam asking themselves the same questions. Please consider taking a few minutes to visit our interview area. We’ll take your experience with the exam and share it with others.
What does this site run on?
I use a Linone VPS running Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP, WordPress software, and the Genesis theme. For the practice test I use a really cool WordPress Plugin called mTouchQuiz.
Feel free to contact me about directly if you don’t feel like leaving a comment, sending a tweet, etc.
Happy Studying!
